Opportunity Asia - Experiences & Observations
Born in Vietnam, Mitchell Pham co-founded the first Augen enterprise in 1993 with business partners from New Zealand, Germany and Korea.
After years of building business networks and relationships, Mitchell led the Augen Software Group into Asia in 2005, when he established its first Asian software services centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
In March 2008, Mitchell was the first and only New Zealander to become an Asia21 Fellow of the Asia Society - an international organisation based in New York whose various activities include connecting networks of influential people and organisations across the Asia-Pacific region.
At our May 2009 Networking Dinner, Mitchell shared his experiences and some key challenges in setting up business in Asia. He explained the need to practise different business etiquette; to develop strategic working relationships with governments, trade offices, potential channel partners, and well-connected experts who can help develop strategies and tactics as well as execute them with precision in the field - all vital parts of expanding a
New Zealand business into Asia.
Mitchell has generously provided a copy of his presentation which may help other New Zealand companies looking to expand into Asia.
